Jorden (JOR-den) Saxton, LCSW (she/her) LGBTQ Therapist - Salt Lake City, UT

Jorden has a decade of experience working with adolescents and their families. She has worked in a variety of settings such as wilderness therapy, residential therapy, and community mental health. She blends evidence based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialect behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI) with an approach that is grounded and experiential, so that clients can feel safe to connect to and explore themselves and the world around them.

Throughout her decade of clinical experience Jorden has had the opportunity to work with LGBTQ+ adolescents and their families. These experiences have been an important part of Jorden’s clinical practice. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as a social worker, she is personally and professionally invested in the protection and advancement of the rights and well being of LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and communities.

Jorden prioritizes the establishment of a safe, solid, and connected therapeutic relationship, so that clients can feel comfortable bringing their most vulnerable and authentic selves. She also recognizes the importance of maintaining or reinforcing a client’s support system, and works to facilitate transparent, honest, and vulnerable connections to foster safety and connection.

Jorden works with clients who may be experiencing mental, emotional, behavioral, and social challenges. She specializes in working with clients experiencing symptoms of depression such as hopelessness and isolation, grief and loss, trauma, and symptoms of anxiety such as excessive fear and avoidance. She works with clients who have used challenging coping skills such as substance use/misuse or self harm to find new skills, resiliency, and an empowered sense of self. She also works with neurodivergent clients to develop a compassionate and deeper understanding of themselves so they can build tricks and tools to flourish.

Jorden received her BFA in theater from University of Utah and her Masters of Social Work in 2019 from the University of Utah. Moreover, she was awarded the “Outstanding Practicum student of the year in 2018” for her work developing a substance use group for families in an underserved area of summit county. As a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Jorden stays up-to-date with the Standards of Care 8 (SOC8) by regularly reviewing current research and literature. She is also a member of the LGBTQ+ Affirmative Psychotherapists Guild of Utah and she participates in consultation with Dr. Kuhn to enhance her knowledge and practice.

Jorden enjoys the natural landscape of north and southern Utah. She is active outside year round through rock climbing, hiking, biking, backpacking, and her favorite outdoor activity SNOWBOARDING. If she could have it her way, it would never be summer. Jorden has a bright and vibrant community in Salt Lake City filled with the best friends and family someone could ask for! Jorden holds her loved ones near to her heart and also enjoys spending time cooking meals and baking treats for them. There are few things Jorden loves more than a good prank or a solid roast as a way to show love and care.
