B. JoAnn (jo-AN) Cook, LCSW (she/her):

For more than twenty years, JoAnn has been dedicated to offering assessment and therapeutic services to youth, young adults, and their families. As an advocate and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, JoAnn takes pride in staying updated with evidence-based treatments for transgender and gender-expansive youth and young adults. As a founding board member of the first LGBTQ+ community center in Pocatello, Idaho, she has consistently championed the creation of safe spaces and inclusive support for the community.

JoAnn is committed to creating a safe and compassionate space for individuals to explore their authentic selves without judgment. Through collaborative work, she identifies clients’ strengths and support systems to implement interventions that have been mutually agreed upon. JoAnn specializes in assessing and treating complex clinical issues in youth, such as cognitive breaks with reality, trauma, managing severe life stressors, coping with depression and feelings of hopelessness, boosting self-esteem and self-efficacy, addressing substance abuse, and helping neurodivergent individuals thrive.

JoAnn not only offers therapeutic services at One Haven but also serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the Psychiatry department. In this capacity, she delivers lectures on Motivational Interviewing and managing Disruptive, Impulse-Control, and Conduct Disorders in youth. Additionally, JoAnn provides therapeutic services for adolescents and their parents at the HMHI Teenscope Day Treatment Program.

Hobbies and Interests

JoAnn finds peace and rejuvenation in the great outdoors and feels most at home when camping with her soon-to-be wife and their dogs. One of her passions is birding, and she recently accomplished her goal of observing 25 different bird species in every county in Utah. Indoors, she enjoys the thrill of attending basketball games, especially when cheering on the Utes.
