Dr. Kuhn is a highly experienced Child and Adolescent Psychologist, akin to a Pediatrician in terms of approachability and expertise. They have over a decade of experience in private practice, addressing a diverse range of challenges including inattention, sadness, anxiety, neurodiversity, attachment difficulties, loss, questions about sexuality, and gender diversity. Moreover, as a gender-diverse individual, they bring a personal and nuanced understanding of gender diversity to their clinical practice.
With a specialization in working with transgender and gender-expansive youth and young adults, Dr. Kuhn is a renowned presenter on these topics at conferences throughout Utah. Recognizing the importance of self-expression in youth, Dr. Kuhn combines structured cognitive behavioral play therapy with process-oriented approaches to address various challenges, including those related to gender identity. Dr. Kuhn integrates Theraplay techniques into their work with families, promoting deeper connections and understanding. Their commitment to the profession is further demonstrated by their supervision of both undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, Dr. Kuhn actively engages with politicians to discuss the implications of proposed legislation on gender diverse youth.

Education
Dr. Kuhn earned a BA in Psychology and Spanish from Elizabethtown College and the University of Barcelona. They earned their MA and PhD in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology and they were Adjunct Facility at the University of Utah. Dr. Kuhn was a Board Member of Women in Private Practice and is a Board Member of the LGBTQ+ Affirmative Psychotherapists Guild of Utah. Dr. Kuhn stays up-to-date with the latest standards of care by regularly reviewing current research and literature. They also participate in peer consultation groups to continually enhance their knowledge and practice.
Certifications
Dr. Kuhn is one of the few mental health professionals in the State of Utah to hold the Transgender Treatment Certification. They have also achieved the qualifications and experience necessary to be recognized as a Standards of Care 8 (SOC8) Certified Member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). Additionally, they have been a Registered Play Therapist. Lastly, Dr. Kuhn is licensed in over 40 states through Psypact.
Hobbies & Interests
During their free time Dr. Kuhn often finds themselves trekking through sunlit or snowy trails with their loyal dog who eagerly creates havoc in tow. On other days, they trade canine company for that of their adventurous friends, embarking on canyoneering adventures. The thrill of descending slot canyons, rappelling through waterfalls, and overcoming each challenge encountered is unmatched. At home, Dr. Kuhn immerses themselves in the latest book club selection, mobilizes their tools for the next home project, or experiments with diverse ingredients and flavors in the kitchen. Together, these activities enrich their life with joy, adventure, and a deeper connection to both nature and themselves.
